Boomkat Product Review:
Prolific trio Hair Police (made up of Wolf Eyes' Mike Connelly, Death Unit's Trevor Tremaine and Robert Beatty) make a rare appearance on a 'proper' CD release. Ever the legitimate face of the underground, No Fun are responsible for getting this lot out of their CD-R holding pattern, although The Certainty Of Swarms indicates no downscaling of the band's ferocity. Blending the most extreme, caustic elements of modern metal with free improv and power electronics, Hair Police are a gloriously bitter pill to swallow, and this album finds them on startlingly good form. The cartoonishly aggressive vocals sound more like the creepy obscene phone calls in Black Christmas than conventional black metal rasps, and are the icing on a particularly rancid cake, by turns combining with the most biting distortion imaginable, and some of the weirdest, most primordial, groaning electronics around. You'll be nursing sore ears for about a week after sitting through this, but it'll probably be worth it.
