Celestial Soul Portrait
Numero present a sincerely wide-eyed and wondrous collection of new age synth music prototypes imagined and created between 1975-1985 by Iasos. As the story goes, Iasos was inspired by "…the infinitely numbered harmonies transmitted by Vista, a benevolent being from a distant dimension…" to experiment with the earliest commercially available synthesisers and tape FX, creating a breathtakingly lush and blessed form of electronic music that was subsequently deemed new age. Interpreting Vista's transmissions from his studio on a houseboat in Sausalito, San Francisco, Iasos closely mirrored the music of fellow Greek, Vangelis, but there's possibly something more of a glassy-eyed, endearingly eccentric charm to Iasos' music which beautifully captures the imagination. The keener new age heads and even newcomers should be aware of the fairly recent reissue of his debut LP, 'Inter-Dimensional Music', but worry not if you were too busy playing with your crystals, as 'Celestial Soul Portrait' features a number of its charms compiled with equally beautiful moments from much rarer follow-ups on his Inter-Dimensional Music label. Most interestingly, in 1989 a psychologist professor at Plymouth State found that Iasos' music "bore striking resemblances to the sounds of near-death experiences", and we'd have to say his music is one of the closest synaesthetic analogues we've heard to a DMT experience. Massive recommendation!
