Boomkat Product Review:
Having opened its account last year with missives from King Felix (Laurel Halo) and British Murder Boys, Mute's Liberation Technologies imprint returns with a fresh EP from Bandshell, last seen busting fiendishly abstracted club moves on Hessle Audio. He comes out fighting here, colliding hollowed-out eski synths, heaving bass-tones and bruk snares on 'Winton', like a radgy younger brother to Kowton's 'Des Bissous'. 'Nice Mullet' is painted from the same brutalist palette, but is rhythmically more complex, contracting and expanding to wreck headspace and dancefloor alike.
'Perc' is a complete change of gear - bleepy, melancholic ambient techno for armchair androids - while 'Landfill', which gives the EP its title, is a colour-bled, distended techno deconstruction that wouldn't have sounded entirely out of place on one of Leyland Kirby's Intrigue & Stuff 12"s.
