Boomkat Product Review:
Modern deep disco-house stalwart The Mole gives up his first album in half a decade. Hot on the heels of his excellent Perlon 12", 'Caregiver' arrives on his and Jon Berry's label, Maybe Tomorrow, revolving around ten cuts of prime, debonaire boogie with a dub-spacious feel and streamlined house lean crimped for contemporary requirements. Nimble sample deployment, an instinctive feel for the 'floor and well-rounded, full-bodied production gives the whole album a timeless appeal and up-to-date freshness, especially on highlights like 'Our Time Has Come' with its intra-dimensional interplay of layered samples and sheer technoid dubbing, or the subtly infectious, earworming hooks and crafty spatial dynamics of the fractal disco roller '(when) Monkey Punches Dog', while two beat-down joints, the swaying, heat-hazy 'Slow Blame' and sensual, atmospheric late night acid elegy 'Come On Darlene' temper the pace with canny judgement.
