Truly deadly gear here from Breakage for Shy FX's Digital Soundboy imprint with a piece of wax set to detonate decks and dubstep floors everywhere. Breakage has previously teased us with nods to the dubstep sound on his awesome 'Clarendon/Shroud' 12" and a couple of remixes for Naked Lunch and Benga, but has never really put himself fully into the 140 bpm temp bracket til now. 'Callahan' immediately reminds us of that sick Stamp Release 12" from a couple of years ago, which was actually Sleeparchive operating under a pseudonym, with the two cuts sharing powerfully robust but austere techno constructions, carrying an almighty dubstep killer within. Honestly, the snares on this sound like they're going to send the stylus flying, this is shocking gear! The untitled cut on the flip is no less effective, with another warehouse spaced soundsystem mauler, rolling on Peverelist styled kickdrum syncopations and thunderous subs, and offset by a plaintive Nina Simone sample for added emotional punishment. A strong contender for dubstep 12" of the year and an absolute must for fans of Pangaea, Peverelist, TRG or Se7en records. TIP!!!
