Remastered edition of Regis’ 2010 slow techno masterpiece as CUB, backed with his slickly distilled version
While nowadays CUB is a duo between Karl O’Connor (Regis) and Simon Shreeve - who coincidentally remastered this one - the original 2010 release was the sole preserve of Regis. We still recall being baffled by its dragged traction and hulking pressure when mixing it with other tunes, as nothing much else seems to tesselate its cranky grind, but a seam of similar cuts from the likes of Fishermen and others, or a bit of pitch-controlling would sort that problem in its wake.
The OG still ranks among the sickest of its time, setting up a whole new phase of O’Connor’s style in the process, and the Regis remix here tempers its hypnotic rolige to a T for proper zombie lurch swang and parry in the club. Stone cold fucking deadly business.
