Boomkat Product Review:
Head-to-head between legendary British avant-garde saxophonist Evan Parker and American noisenik John Wiese, an early one from PAN.
The collision of wild, electronic textures and Parker's lung-powered free-improv makes for a cogent meeting of the unhinged, with Wiese's scrabbling, wiry sounds every bit as spontaneous and agile as Parker's organic performance. C-Section is dominated by two lengthy and busy recordings ('The Jist' and 'Dog Cesarean'), between which shorter, more playful (if that's the right word) tracks are wedged.
C-Section finds density in scarcity - deep, glacial muck bubbles emerge beneath Parker's inhuman circular breathing, only to plunge into an incessant clatter of industrial landscape." Saxophonist, Evan Parker is a free jazz legend on a worldwide scale, best known for his work with Peter Brotzmann on the seminal 'Machine Gun' and with Keith Rowe (AMM, Anthony Braxton, Joe McPhee and Derek Bailey. His collaborator on 'C-Section' is John Wiese, the acclaimed artist and composer who has worked with noise titans such as Sunn 0))), Merzbow, C. Spencer Yeh and as part of "concréte grindcore band" Sissy Spacek.
