Boomkat Product Review:
London/Tokyo’s Childhood Drop Out’z collate early ‘90s bleeps ’n bass, breaks and early techno emulations by producers who were probably sucking dummies in ’92, but not ‘cos they were gurning their teeth off.
Working within the time-honoured templates of the original acid house and rave movement, the ten artists loop ’91 into ’22 with a time-travelling clutch of DJ tools that make up for what they lose in translation with plenty of ravey spunk. Listen out for Juan Atkins-via-Nexus 21 electro from E-Control in ‘The Mind of Robots’, and melted acid from Konerytmi, bounding amen breaks from Basement Space, a killer bit of chopped up acid breaks by Alphonse, trim bleep ’n bass tekkerz by Skywave Transmissions vs. XOTR, and the Suburban Knight-alike electro of ‘Time Phase’ by DAWL.
