Boomkat Product Review:
Pickled in Baltimore bass but with their eye on the electro-hop crown, Spank Rock's debut album 'Yoyoyoyoyo’ was a helium pitched bluster that pulled influences from here and there to create a thrilling record that had more hits than misses. Culled from that LP, this 12" release of 'Bump' sees the album's spoke realigned with slightly more fermented beats that lend a RUN DMC air to proceedings as MC Naeem Han's roller-coaster vocals duke it out with the electronic stutter and cow-bell rhythms. Backed up by a Switch remix that ropes in wave after wave of synth and house baked digitalis, 'Bump' is shown to be a lithe and flexible beast that works just as well in the club as it will on a backpacker's headphone... Housed on hand-stamped vinyl, 'Bump' is 21st Century hip-hop that doesn't need guns and rocks to make an impact - preferring instead some innovative beats and a Boggle approach to vocals that gets the head-nodding whether you like it or not.
