Boomkat Product Review:
Now here's some killer business for you for you. With the blogosphere's favourite artist levelling crowds around the world, M.I.A. Has decided now is a good time to release this incendiary set of remixes/acapellas, all of which gloriously corrupt the original to teeth gnashing effect (a good thing, I assure you!). Whilst the album cut of 'Bucky Done Gun' certainly enjoys a new lease of life when removed from the bejewelled environ of 'Arular' (the Rocky horns in particular seem less unnecessary), it's the remixes that really shine. First to get busy is Rio De Janeiro's DJ Marlboro (the Baille Funk overlord), who introduces ten-tonnes of cold water synths and all manner of off kilter atmospherics (borderline KLF...) that are an absolute joy. Elsewhere the Y£$ Productions mix (Richard X and Switch) is a stuttering burst of 100ft beats and unsettling pauses, whilst the DaVinChe rejig gives it a glittering grime overhaul. With an instrumental that reveals the complexities of the production and an acepella which makes stark her quick lipped eloquence, M.I.A. is only beginning to reveal her potential. Bucky Done Good!!
