Master of the Surinamese-Dutch bubbling sound, De Schuurman slays on his second salvo with Kampala’s Nyege Nyege Tapes - just wall-to-wall, ridiculously infectious zingers!
Pinging hard on our radars since his debut album ‘Bubbling Inside’ set fire to ‘floors in 2021, De Schuurman has become a leading protagonist of the bubbling sound that started when DJ Moortje and MC Pester began speeding up dancehall 7”s in the ‘80s. Aside from Anti-G’s Planet Mu album in 2011, the sound has been mostly reserved to lowkey and obscure internet avenues, cropping up in the mixtapes of those in the know, but recently breaking out as a sibling of Raptor House with remixes of Nick Léon, rinsed by the likes of DJ Florentino.
Preceded by his reputation as a proper party starter on the international circuit in recent years - from Manchester to Uganda - De Schuurman now serves up one of the sound’s most notable LP’s with ‘Bubbling Forever’; featuring a dozen restless examples of a sound that lands somewhere between happy hardcore/hardstyle, moombahton, crunk, bashment, and hyper latin music, locked off with a seriously up-for-it alacrity and dayglo samples, sharpened for the dance.
De Schuurman links with bubbling legend DJ Chuckie on the breathlessly tight ‘Gangster Sht’, and tags in DJ Electro - copilot of the anthem ‘F*cking Hard!!!’ - on the more melodic vamps of ‘Bubbling Meets Kaseko’, while the rest is a playground for De Schuurman to play solo. The monotone squeal of ‘Raw’ leads off a rambunctious session spanning zingers in ‘Bounce (Exclusive Real 09 Bubbling)’, while ‘Biennale Dakar’ crosses paths with Jersey drill mutations, ’Stylez two’ whoops with Lil Jon stabs, while ‘F*cked Up Industrie’ and ‘Fashion Week’ allow for unusual mid-tempo explorations, and ‘Broejaa’ dials up the Dutch hardstyle synths for shape-cutters.
