Boomkat Product Review:
Collaborations are always unpredictable, an otherwise great artist can have his or her vision blurred by the interference of an outside party, but just as easily as this an average artist can be coaxed into producing something outstanding by the same sort of intervention. Oakland based Anticon mainstay Alias has just the same kind of predicament here with this full-length collaboration with New York chanteuse Tarsier, and the results are typically mixed. As usual Alias’s production is flawless, with lo-fi beats and crisp stuttering samples making up the majority of the tracks, but it’s the rocky pairing with Tarsier’s voice which causes at least some small degree of concern. A Mixed success, this album is likely to appeal more to fans followers of Morr Music or Ulrich Schnauss rather then the typical blunted beat devotee – which is in itself no bad thing. Check.
