Boomkat Product Review:
Skalpel's Igor Pudlo (aka Igor Boxx for this release) gives a musical tribute to the 1945 siege of Festung Breslau (modern day Wroclaw) on his debut solo album. Armed with a formidable jazz background and a mind full of well-planned electronic chops, he alludes to the classic story where "Krautrock grinding illustrates the monotony of the endless battle, psychedelic ornaments underline the absurdity of wartime madness, jazz rhythms sound off the chaos on both sides of the conflict whilst timelessness paints the overwhelming desperation of city defenders' efforts". There's a visceral narrative running to the core of this album, very much capturing the dramatic nature of the conflict with lyrical musicianship and managing to richly depict the ruin and sense of human terror.
