Like rooting through a box of chocolates and every one being a winner, the Morr Music seven inch series continues to delight with a brand new chunk of vinyl from Populous (aka Andrea Mangia) - wherein his hazy confection of hip-hop, electronica and shoegaze pop is mixed to perfection on three edible tracks. Extending the sound which stood his last album 'Queue For Love' in such high esteem, Populous again takes a varied selection of ingredients yet succeeds in making them balanced and desirable bedfellows - kicking off the A with 'Breathes The Best'. As pure a dose of pop as you're likely to have administered this year, 'Breathes The Best' takes a digital filling and coats it in a syrup of politely epic soundscapes that get under the skin in a similar fashion to Elliot Smith or Amandine. Given the room to unfurl gracefully, 'Breathes As The Best' calls upon Michael McGuire (aka Short Stories) to provide vocals which are so tender they're almost see through, but in no way lack emotional depth. To put it another way; its gorgeous. Upping the pace for 'Bon Bon Pour les Rappers', Populous gives the thumbs up to his more beat-laced offerings with a rhythm heavy cut that keeps the pace under control for a fantastically lucid few minutes that demands repeated listens. Continuing Morr's love of cover versions, Populous closes the 7" with Smog's classic' Blood Red Bird' - here played by Giardini Di Miro and transformed into a breathy smudge so piquant you'll be left swooning for weeks. ...
