Boomkat Product Review:
Humongous remix EP from Poland's well cool jazz break cut 'n paste duo Skalpel. This 12" is shared between established artists and four unknownsters who won a recent Ninja Tune remix comp. Amalgamation of sounds deliver a moody noirish half speed bossa jazz breaks remix of 'Low' from the '1958' 12", with an ace Tomasz Stanko inspired trumpet solo - very nice. Skalpel themselves re-imagine 'Break In' as 'Break Out' spooked out jazzy moodescaping that would give Cinematic Orchestra the creeps. Jeremy Joshua offers sweet downtempo beats ala Hint and Bonobo, Dr Rubberfunk drops a live sounding funk jam with ace chitlin' guitar and Paradowski drops an old school Jazzanova flavoured dancefloor blast. Lastly worthy competition winner Backini drops his mix of 'Break In' - an amazing downtempo live drums, analogue keyboards and flute track dripping with authentic subtle dread, like Deathprod getting a dose of the jaaaazzzzz. A very successful 12".
