Boomkat Product Review:
Sharing it's name with their fresher 12" from a few months back, Zero DB (aka Chris Vogado and Neil Combstock) have been mining their seam of jazz-meets-electro-meets-hip hop-meets house for six years - spending a proper apprenticeship at the remix coal-face (Truby Trio, Suba, Peace Orchestra, John Kong & Moonstarr, Grupo Batuque, Hexstatic, Original Soul Boy, Nicola Conte, Acme, Interfearance, Sun Ra...). Finally given their own room, Zero DB seem intent on ensuring their Ninja Tune landlord is happy with their tenure - as they unleash a cage of dirty bass lines so heavy they are likely to become a signature sound. Hardboiled and uncompromising, 'Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines' does exactly what it says in the tin - with the likes of 'A Pomba Girou', 'Te Quiero' and 'On The 1 & 3' hovering somewhere between the breaks stew of Shadow et al and the rimy grime sparkle of the Planet Mu roster. Featuring Heidi Vogel, Phoebe, Pase Rock and Voice, 'Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines' essentially does what Basement Jaxx do - but with an eye trained on the leftfield as opposed to T4. Bingo Bongo!
