Boomkat Product Review:
After tucking away a top number as DJ Python for A. Naples’ Proibito, Brian Pinyero turns up as DJ Wey with an even better, more diverse trio for Brooklyn’s highly investable Bank Records.
The slithering, sidelong slow house/reggaeton jaunt of Song for Masahiro greets us on the A-side with a slow, lilting sound similar to the cuts on ¡Estéreo Bomba! Vol. 1 but, if you ask us, even more seductive in its nonchalant shuffle and hazed-out dub drift.
However, things really pick up from that stoned buzz on the B-side, pushing the tempo to a clave-driven 113bpm canter with keening drones and salty, pointillist bleeps in Flow On, saving the best for last with a latin techno play right out of the Mulero textbook, but taken to lush, psychedelic new heights in Blue.
