Boomkat Product Review:
Since its humble beginnings some 3 years and 30 releases ago, Morr Music has fast become one of the most important, genre-defining and iconoclastic record labels the independent scene has produced since Warp came along and changed the rules in the early 1990's. This second compilation on the label is set to take us into its next crucial phase. Named after an obscure track by those deepest of all shoegazers - Slowdive, "Blue Skied 'An Clear" builds on the fact that so many electronic musicians are gradually starting to (re-)discover guitars, acoustics and the dense atmospheric layering of bands like Slowdive and the all-important My Bloody Valentine. The first CD included in this compilation finds Mum, Isan, Lali Puna, Ulrich Schnauss, B.Fleischmann, Limp, Solvent, Skanfrom, Herrmann and Kleine, Manual, Komeit, MS John Soda and Future 3 breathing life into accoustica with their magic crafting of guitars, glitch and pop - covering some of Slowdive's most touching and momentous compositions, bewilderingly beautiful vocals emerging from some artists on the label who have not until this date flexed their vocal chords. The second CD is a largely instrumental affair, featuring brand new tracks from many of the aforementioned artists, plus a glimpse into the future of the label with contributions from new signings - Guitar, Populous and Icebreaker. With 28 exclusive tracks on board (on both Vinyl and CD formats), this is one of the most ambitious and succesful compilations the scene has enjoyed in years - testimony to the importance and excellence of a label that has matured beyond its years and is enjoying a following that now spans 5 continents and beyond, shards of melody and noise drifting off into outer space. Gorgeously Lovely.
