Boomkat Product Review:
The handiwork of producer/singer Joseph Sims, JDSY debuted with 2008's Understander EP on Moodgadget, making the leap to Ghostly International for the Adage Of Unknown full-length a few months later. On new album Blue Newspaper, Sims continues to refine his craft as an electro-pop one-man band, serving up off-kilter numbers like 'Telluride' and the super-glossy 'L.A. Apple', complete with spidery beat programming and chaotic Braindance-style convulsions. In addition to the finely polished vocal cuts there are plenty of deft instrumentals thrown in, including the crisply wrought 'Tree House' and the surreal, swinging hip-hop of 'Geraldine', while even finding a way to wedge some intriguing Afro-jazz inspired moves into 'Carver' - introducing manual percussion and horns to the mix.
