Boomkat Product Review:
Released late last year on a limited CD edition, 'Beyond The Event Horizon' is the latest in a long line of exceptional beatless works from gifted producer Stephan Laubner, better known as STL. We've long since declared our love for the man's often overlooked oeuvre, and this release slots very nicely near the top of the pile as far as his layered drone-works are concerned. Thomas Koner's influence looms large over much of this material, managing to extract and discard any new-agey 'ambient' elements from a mix of what sounds like amplified air vents and harrowing tones that rarely allow any light through the cracks. "Shifting Colors" is especially affecting, tracing vague harmonic patterns that are as disturbing as anything you might have heard on the recent set from Indignant Senility or, indeed, the soundtrack to Eraserhead which that piece references so well. We really implore you to check it out if you're a lover of dark, layered music - it ranks among Laubner's best. Highly Recommended.
