Boomkat Product Review:
Norman "lawyer by day, DJ by night" Nodge fulfils his role as Berghain resident with the Berlin club's 6th mix CD. As with his peers - Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Marcel Fengler - Nodge is known for his distinct DJing style, favouring dryly motorik and almost industrial rhythms coupled with subtle, filigree electronic atmospheres. His contribution to this now legendary series obliges 19 sleek, driving grooves spanning the work of Oni Ayhun, Jeff Mills, Silent Servant, Mark Broom, Legowelt and DJ Slip, among others, all mixed with a knowing sleight of hand and shark-eyed intent. From the expansive, pensive openings of Birds Two Cage's 'Gase' and Oni Ayhun's 'OAR002-B' the mix really begins to pick up some steam with a run thru joints by Hauntologists, Staffan Linzatti, Jeff Mills and Silent Servant. The mid section takes a swerve to kinkier, roiling patterns with moves from DJ T-1000, a cracking PAS remix of The Nighttripper, and Charlton's 'Black Slong', prepping the ground for the spiralling ascension of Architectural's 'Looking Ahead' and physical blows from Mark Broom, Ctrls and Chancellor. With Tim Taylor & DJ Slip's 'New York Minds' he veers the groove to a darkly funked-up flex, followed in Monty Luke's remix of El Gato's obscure 'Coefficient Of Friction' and the brooding qualities of Radioactive Man's 'Nastyradio' and the Legowelt remix of Xosar's haunting 'Rainy Day Juno Jam'.
