Boomkat Product Review:
Best known for his work on the Secretly Canadian Imprint, American singer/songwriter June Panic has shuffled over to the Spanish Acuarela label to release this six-track EP. The first thing you’ll notice is that Mr. Panic has heard a lot of Marc Bolan in his life – not that there’s anything wrong with that (hello Devendra!) and had his fair share of intimate moments with Bob Dylan. There’s a sense of American rock history when listening to ‘Bellybuttonless Boy’ and it’s definitely what makes it transcend the usual indierock drivel that seems to be in endless supply at the moment. An understanding of what came before is one of the most important things to have in mind when creating music like this, and that’s why Panic finds it easy to play with the form and inject some humour into his songs. Another enjoyable EP from Acuarela!
