Boomkat Product Review:
Ombre is an unexpected but entirely welcome collaboration between shapeshifting sound sculptor Roberto Carlos Lange and the divinely talented vocalist Julianna Barwick. This unlikely duo first met on Myspace around 2009, back when it worked, and soon enough did a tour together in 2010, getting to know each on-the-road. With a friendship established they jammed in the studio and we'll ffwd the rest to 'Believe You Me', an oddly successful fusion of Carlos Lange's Latin-rooted psyche-folk and Barwick's gossamer coos. It's a quiet music, one you almost wouldn't want to disturb with your own presence, almost like you've happened across some private recordings. Backed by a full array of instrumentaton - from horns to harp, mellotron, moog and omnichord - they create an other world of para-ambient pop seeping from porchside shufflers to wide-open electronica sounding like Motion Sickness Of Time Travel met Celer for a Tropicalia session. It's certainly not easily summed up and that's half of its charm, we'll leave the rest for your discoverery.
