Boomkat Product Review:
Ms Van Etten will soon get sick of reading this in reviews of her album, but it's hard not to think of Marissa Nadler when traversing these lovelorn verses. Greg Weeks is co-producer here, and of course he's previously left his mark on Nadler's music too. Reach beyond the obvious associations and you'll find much to recommend this release: the vocal harmonies pile up in a magnificent fashion, serving as an almost orchestral accompaniment to the delightful, Vashti bunyan-like 'Much More Than That'. The delicately poised acoustic heart of the album is adorned in all the right ways, sounding like an even more spectral Mazzy Star on the gorgeous 'Tornado', having punctuated the equally sublime 'I Fold' with ear-caressing, close-up cymbal splashes - quickly those Nadler comparisons fall by the wayside and the superficial similarities fall away to reveal a highly promising artist in her own right.
