Boomkat Product Review:
The ambient producer deigns for a reduced and darker sound on his eighth full length release. With 'Beautyfear' he strikes a fine balance between windswept panoramic bleakness and heart-breaking symphonic majesty making a clear departure from previous works. There are still signature traces of the luscious widescreen sound that has endeared him so much to the ambient/neo-classical cognoscenti over the last decade, but this time he's tempered his grander inclinations with an almost dub-wise sensibility, swiping out any of the more overblown gestures to leave behind Gas-like silhouettes of drifting chords and swirling, crimson-hued pads with a sublime, infinitely plangent quality that could ideally soundtrack a Lynch flick on slow motion. It's spellbinding stuff and primed for listeners to fall deep into.
