Boomkat Product Review:
So now Kevin Shields is off playing with his proper band, where does that leave Primal Scream? Well I guess Bobby Gilespie has just got to pull his weight and come up with a sound that Primal Scream are best known for... and that means going back to 'Rocks', probably. We begin with the Kinks-like 'Beautiful Future' and it's obvious that Gilespie has now dropped any of the experimental electronic excesses hinted at by Shields in the XTRMNTR-era, something bound to get him a few fans back, but it also shows he can still write a good pop song. It's a testament to his skill as a songwriter that the band are still around after God-knows how many years and God-knows how much heroin, and with pop flourishes as good as the synth-heavy 'Can't Go Back' and the foot stomping Beatles-lite 'Zombie Man' they're likely to be around for years to come.
