Boomkat Product Review:
Jenny Hoyston of Paradise Island is probably best known for her work in Erase Errata, though this project focuses more on Hoyston's spiky acoustic folk and lo-fi electronic song work, all delivered with an experimental slant. Her grungy acoustic thrashing is miles to the left of your standard singer-songwriter setup, and the brooding drum machine ditty 'Yr Class' only cements that. The biggest contrast comes between the ukulele ineptitude of 'The Beautiful Late Nights' and the bedroom version of Neu! Hoyston conjures up for the lovely 'Wolfi's Theme'. Dada Swing on the other hand are a Belgian no wave combo who rustle up some tuneful racket that seems to have one foot in anti-muso punk and another in euro dance-pop. 'Everybody Superstar' typifies this, sounding like a particularly incompetent New York garage rock troupe with an ear for daft choruses. Elsewhere 'Gay Pony' sounds a bit like Melt Banana gone wrong while 'Over Size' is angular in a Fire Engines sort of way.
