Boomkat Product Review:
Taken from their Hospice album, 'Bear' begins under the most unassuming, low-key circumstances with twinkling electric piano tones accompanying Peter Silberman's wordy outpouring. Although normally they bring to mind Arcade Fire's rabble-rousing crescendos, here the verses more closely resemble Okkervil RIver's Will Sheff in the tone of their delivery, leading up to the inevitable boldness of big, full-band choruses that swell with horns and walls of guitars. A remix places an electronic slant on the song without doing too much structural damage, instead brightening up the track with bitcrushed beats and granulated synth pads. The original mix remains the reason to get excited here though, and it's a good advert for the band's excellent debut long-player.
