Boomkat Product Review:
The liner notes really make this compilation as entertaining as it is. Littered with quotations and tongue-in-cheek jibes at the featured bands you'll read comments about how The Butterflies Of Love were so unsuccessful "that the shark jumped them." or that the NME said of schmindie quintet Finlay: "Like The Pixies. Only British. And Shit." The truth is, this compilation has a cumulative effect that's bound to win over anyone with even the remotest interest in traditional British indie rock and pop. Sure, to anyone with an aversion to Steve Lamacq's radio playlists circa 1997 some of the bands might come across as fairly diabolical, pumping out an all but indiscriminate jangle, but to the sympathetic ear this is a treasure trove of 7" cuts by bands who tend to operate in spite of fads and trends rather than because of them. expect to hear from the likes of Discordia, Bearsuit, The Loves, Airport Girl, Comet Gain, Homescience, The Chemistry Experiment, and so very many others.
