Boomkat Product Review:
It's been some time since we last heard owt from Tigerbeat 6 hero Cex, and it would seem that he's used the hiatus wisely, rewiring his sound in tune to the rhythms of 2009. This is a collection of two 12"s originally released on his own Must Finish imprint, but now collated digitally for the TB6 house. 'Lazt Gasp' gives us the first taste of his impressive new style, meshing B-more booty breaks with metallically reverbed stabs and haunted warehouse atmospheres for a nu-Robot-boogie sound, while 'Roland Park Acid' solidifies this with a subtly crafted monotone experiment. 'Pond & Hooper' reminds of his noisy glitch affected sound but now with added orgaic textures for trippy effect, '(91' scrunches up more B-more rhythms with micro processed electronics, 'Freq' reminds of seasick Autechre rhythms with a neat line of darkened booty flavour and the final epic 'Criticality' displays an expanded scope and technical maturity with an 18 minute electro-acoustic exercise underpinned by skipping techno rhythms.
