Boomkat Product Review:
Dutch sound artist and composer Hans Van Eck has made a remarkable album here, all based on the sonic capabilities of his BassBox, a kind of installation-based instrument that takes the form of an electronic pump that channels air in measured quantities through a number of flutes. It does this by vibrating bass loudspeakers, thus creating a flux in air pressure. It's the ability to control and choreograph the motion of speaker cones that allows Van Eck to work as a composer, resulting in seven different pieces on the album, each experimenting with wildly complex rhythmic formations. The sounds on show range from the strobing drone resonance of 'Rivers' to the incalculably strange, morphing pulses of 'Chaotic Pendulum' and each example generated from Van Eck's impressive sound machines offers up a thrilling and unique listening experience, the like of which could only have come from a physical source. Recommended.
