Boomkat Product Review:
Limited new 7” and cd from the mighty Kid Koala. This famous early jazz standard (a big favourite of Louis Armstrong’s) gets the valium and rye treatment from a man so straight he kind of comes out the other side. ·A little like watching a silent movie of fat men having sex with instruments, it’s a timely reminder that Kid Koala isn’t so much a turntablist as an aural Robert Crumb. Continuity announcers mutter discontinuously in the background, a whole band is interfered with, houses melt. ‘Vacation Island’ continues the journey into a kind of fucked up Americana, though with a touch of Wakiki thrown in for good measure, and the kind of scratches which sound like small creatures being squashed. Cd contains interactive material.
