*The record that started it all for Theo Parrish, available on digital formats for the first time* Originally released on Theo's first short-lived label, Elevate Recording's, The Baby Steps EP became a legendary release in the world of Detroit House, as it showcased the delicious talents of our man Theo whose dubbed out and lo-fi tracks have changed the face of House Music as we know it. The opening track, 'Early Byrd' loops up Donald Byrd's horn and a cut vocal, add the crunchy percussion and solid sub bass kick drums and some superbly subtle filtering and the raw early sound of Theo shines through, a rolling, almost jacking introduction to his sound. The flip holds one of my favourite house tracks ever, the lush spaces of 'Walking Thru The Sky' are the perfect embodiement of Theo's minimal yet sparkling sound, spacious rhodes piano, simple drums and the subtle vocal which is spaced out across the beats, this is the epitome of deep grooving house, a master at work. The last cut 'Lake Shore Drive' is one for the floor, with looped rhodes keys, filtered drums, and strings cut through the track with lots of drops, filters and bass making for a jacked out groove and a varied EP from the man.
