Boomkat Product Review:
Raw ass Detroit trooper Manuel Gonzales carves back to DBA with a great 2nd album of wayward 313 functions bending beatdown, electro and house to his uniquely salty-sweet tastes.
The first half of the album is basically his take on beatdown styles, working gritty samples and grooves at slow and mid-tempo pace with the loose sleight of hand that’s become his trademark. Look out for highlights in the slow, booming boogie recoil of You Inside Me, in the Actress-alike stride of Nichrome, and the charmingly red-eyed bump ’n glance of She Finna Blow.
Axiom’s 2nd half gradually raises the energy levels and pace in the manner of a DJ set, an aspect that’s integral to MGUN’s work. 359 sparks up the kinda ruffcut chords and blunt bass attitude only comparable with Omar-S, while he also impresses with the filter house butter (with crumbs) of Your Never Home, and the closing couplet of deep diving, pacy electro in Cancel and a heavy rooted but soaring Detroit house bomb Sift, which ranks among the strongest cuts in his catalogue.
