Released in 1979, the legendary Avon Calling compilation showcased some of the key DIY bands on Bristol's music scene. Local musician Simon Edwards formed Bristol's first independent record label, Heartbeat Records, which set about releasing music from around the region via 7"s, before ultimately culminating in a compilation LP showcasing fifteen of the featured bands. The album met with much acclaim and John Peel notably went on to declare the record as truly superb, the compilation that all others should be judged by". Avon Calling 2 re-enters the Heartbeat Records vaults and compiles a revealing follow-up collection featuring hidden gems from bands such as Europeans, Social Security, Apartment, The Directors, Essential Bop and other such post-punk and proto-indie acts.
