Boomkat Product Review:
LA's celebrated soundtrack supervisor, composer and musician Brian Reitzell yields his most personal vision of cosmic highway sounds on 'Auto Music' starring guest spot from Kevin Shields (MBV), among others. In recent years Brian's probably best known for his work with Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), whom he collaborated with on the score and soundtrack for Sofia Coppola's 'Bling Ring', beside his work on the acclaimed 'Watch Dogs' computer game soundtrack, and playing on Air's 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' soundtrack. Factor in previous work wrangling Kevin Sheilds out of hibernation for the 'Lost In Translation' OST and as member of Red Kross and you're looking at a bona fide legend. So to 'Auto Music', a nine track suite inspired by driving along LA freeways between his home and studio, six miles away where the project was conceived and finalised. Also taking influence from the pre-Fantasia animations of Oskar Fischinger and Spanish '70s art film 'Spirit Of The Beehive', he presents a momentous set of driving themes, spreading out from the radiant kosmiche of 'Last Summer' featuring Kevin Shields on organ thru the poised drum machine patter and floating synth voices of 'Ozu Choral' to sublime, chiming passages such as 'Gaudi' and shades-on, nine minute motorik grooves in 'Auto 1'.
