Italian HD sound wizard Furtherset comes correct on his fourth -ous missive, a bleak, cinematic sci-fi ambient crawler that should appeal if yr into Ben Frost, Roly Porter, or Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury's "Annihilation" OST.
There's no shortage of sound design-heavy power ambient material dripping from the woodwork right now, but Furtherset's 'Auras' is a respectable addition to the pile. Tommaso Pandolfi isn't just a talented producer, his arrangements are memorable and driven by a palpable emotional weight. For all its TV interference noise and hi-res glitchplay, nine minute opener 'Auras' is actually guided by a cooling monosynth bassline that slowly cedes to orchestral strings and tidal whispers.
'Coda' is brassier and more baroque, with heaving electronic swoops accompanying a John Carpenter bassline and clipped electronics that sound thematically in line with Aho Ssan's fizz'd "Simulacrum". 'Circle' rounds out the EP with more of the same, touching rousing melodies with squashed FX, suggestive rhythms and druggy "LP5" swirls.
