Boomkat Product Review:
'Audible Approaches' is an ambitious and deeply sentimental project initiated by Israeli/German imprint C.Sides with a worthy agenda: they asked ten artists, including members of Efterklang, Khan, Gold Panda, Glitterbug, and Brandt Brauer Frick to "…create a humble contribution toward making this a better place through audible means." Of course, the effect remains to be seen, but they undoubtedly gathered some lovely music on this compilation. Each artist was requested to make a piece between ten and fifteen minutes long, resulting in five pieces per disc. Highlights of the first disc occur in Khan's exotic industrial dub meditation on the story of Turkish-Armenian cymbal makers Zildjian entitled 'Sahane' (Turkish trans. 'Beautiful'), and Gold Panda's cinematic beatless departure. On the second disc there's the notable inclusion of Brandt Brauer Frick's mercurial jazz electronics on 'Schwan', a sublime vocal edit of Glitterbug and Enas Massalha's 'The Sky Fell Silent', and the fragile neo-classicisms of 'The Figment Notebook' by Mads Brauer and Caspar Clausen of Efterklang.
