Ling debuts on PAN & Visionist’s Codes with a breathtaking plunge thru hyperreal collage and abstract club dimensions in the Attachment EP. If you’ve ever been wowed by M.E.S.H., Arca or TCF productions, this should be top of your must check list!
A compelling debut by any measure, the Attachment EP distills and refracts "field and browser" recordings in a sharply defined yet plasmic flow of distorted reality that feels akin to flossing your swede with a binary-coded silk tapestry.
The result of four years in the works, it’s based on the notion that “…taking an instinctual interpretation of information potentially warps and distorts reality. If data triggers internal responses, it risks following a predetermined path that can stray from reality”, and in doing so, cannily identifies and explores his and our near-metaphysical relationship with the datascape and how each informs the other.
The coiled, convulsive dynamics of Thuril Whir connote sensations of anxiety and motion sickness as much as an out-of-body club experience, whilst Blue severs and collides synthetic future funk prisms with the gleeful blips of what could be an old lady on the bus playing candy crush with the sound on.
Yet at its most tangible, physical, this is hyper FWD club music, too. Jezmonite works with whip-sharp mix of UK-rufige and Afro-latin diaspora references, and Canthem jabs and teases with queasy contrast of convulsive, brittle grime spurts and oily sino licks sending OG JT The Goon styles into orbit, up there with Kamixlo or Visionist styles.
