Boomkat Product Review:
The wild man of modern rap is back with a debut album for Warp.
The tone is darker, more twisted than his previous party sessions, XXX and Old, packing guest vox by Kelela, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Earl Sweatshirt on productions from Evian Christ, Paul White, Black Milk and the hot gob himself.
Basically he still sounds like Doseone’s brother-from-a-parallel dimension, one where lexicons are still legible, and backpacks are de rigour. The best thing about Atrocity Exhibition, aside from the titular nods to J.G. Ballard and Joy Division, is Evian Christ’s beat for Pneumonia; a 100% proof blend of Pusha T and Cut Hands that’s so strong even Brown has to step his game up with clipped bars and his most challenging, impressive flows and hooks.
