South Korean duo Salamanda get the remix treatment from Washington DC's soso tharpa, Bristol's Yushh, and Human Pitch boss Tristan Arp.
To accompany the release of Salamanda's "ashbalkum" album, Human Pitch has commissioned a handful of remixes. soso tharpa is first to step up, transforming 'Kiddo Caterpillar', originally a joyful fusion of squeaks and plasticky marimba sounds, into a skeletal, steppy, bass-heavy club roller - the kinda biz you might expect CCL or Objekt to play. Tristan Arp's rework of 'Coconut Warrior' is more restrained, keeping the tempo low and dubby, but cracking into mind-altering sound design before fizzling out.
Yushh's remix of 'Catching Trails' is our pick of the bunch - it's soft hued but somehow still propulsive, with womping sub bass alongside feather-soft kicks and all manner of billowy electronics. Lovely - can almost imagine it as the soundtrack to a vintage PS1-era sci-fi racer.
