Boomkat Product Review:
‘Acá’ spies new, pop-wise horizons for Amnesia Scanner as they meet Peruvian vocalist Lalita in the first sign of a promising 2019-2020 cycle after issuing the ‘Another Life’ album and ‘Lexachast’ project with Bill Kouligas and Harm Van Dorpel over the past 12 months.
Accompanied by artwork and a video from Amnesia Scanner’s longterm collaborators PWR, the single ‘Acá’ feels like a lysergic dembow ballad and comes framed by a lighter production touch allowing space for Lalita’s striking vocal to contrast with their signature, expressively gurned vocaloids.
In a smart way Amnesia Scanner’s combination of Spanish language vocals with deeply rooted Latin rhythms and a contemporary production palette acknowledges key inspiration from Elysia Crampton and, in turn, Arca, whose respective Amerindian Aymara and Venezuelan heritages have come to reflect and expand prevailing influence from Latin American and Caribbean music over western music over the past decade - from underground, deconstructed collage styles, to avant-garde, technoid dream-pop and dance paradigms that irrevocably make up the modern zeitgeist.
Amnesia Scanner will perform with Laita at Kraftwerk, Berlin on November 30th as part of Amnesia Scanner’s new piece Anesthesia Scammer.
