Amnesia Scanner relinquish one of 2016’s most anticipated albums with the full frontal sickness of AS for Young Turks Recordings Ltd.
Hailing from the anterior cortex of Berlin’s electronic hivemind, the duo have previously attracted a lot of attention to their 15 minute Angels Rig Hook outing on Felicita’s Gum Artefacts, and provided key pieces in mixes by Evian Christ and M.E.S.H., as well as teaming up with PAN’s Bill Kouligas and OG net artist Harm Van Dorpel in the generative algorithmic multi-media project, Lexachast.
After issuing a couple of album tracks as singles, AS present the duo’s most substantial (out of) body of work, one which realigns vertiginous and lateral scrolling into a gyroscopic mechanism of quantum metaphysics for radical dancefloor upheaval and head-flossing.
Entirely a product of its times, AS mediates a rushing flux of data overload and noumenal projections via up-to-the-second production techniques mirroring the contours and dynamics of stadium EDM, cloud-based dance rhizomes and sci-fi philosophy.
And yet, somehow, thanks to a steely, mutual mind for detail and spatial perception, it doesn’t sound like the most convoluted mess imaginable. Rather, they’ve managed to distill a fluid series of microcosmic ecosystems, windows or tabs crammed with information that roughly translates a cut-up, morphing, avant-garde syntax to club music, whilst also evoking the non-place, para-dimensional effect of internet immersion.
