Boomkat Product Review:
How's this for you; Sarah Nelson got her paws on a computer in 2002, recorded 4 EP's (that were never released), snagged the ear of a certain Mr Peel and featured on last years posthumous Festive Fifty... "But is she any cop?" we hear you cry, to which we reply "You bet, mother-lover!". With a similar approach to Orangutan-Clan founder Cornelius, the eponymous Sarah has kindly collated her four EP's on one release, assuming a sound which plunders everything from Kids TV to drill n bass in an attempt to get the sound in her head into yours... Opening with the sound of a contented farm-yard, 'Listen With Sarah' lurches into life through the West Country B-Boys stylings of 'Animal Hop'. Akin to one of those radio test stations that broadcast ambient sound for months prior to a new transmission getting muddled up with Rinse FM, 'Animal Hop' certainly doesn't take itself seriously but is by no means a comedy record. Very much novel without descending into novelty, highlights include 'My Crow's Soft Sounds' using the e-mail arrival 'ping' of a Mac to construct a textured and dreamy soundscape, four-to-the-floor pounding on 'July (Part 2)' and an open plunder of Radioactive Man for closer 'We Are The Plan'. Get comfy and tuck in.
