Boomkat Product Review:
DAT Politics have always been one of the more interesting electropop groups. For one thing they've tended towards more forward-thinking, dextrous production than the usual '80s revisionism the genre relies on. Are Oui Phony? is possibly a straighter outing for the band though, with the outright pop of Wow Twist being honed and developed here to great effect. The tongue-in-cheek laptop pop of 'Sad Snow Man' is a perfect summation of what the trio do best: they manage to make the flimsiest sounds and the most in-your-face, straight-forward of melodies sound utterly addictive. Kevin Blechdom makes a by now compulsory appearance as vocalist on the glitched-up techno of 'Motor Day' and as keyboard player on the alarmingly impressive Kenny Loggins cover, 'Rainbow Connection'. Though the seven tracks here whiz by, clocking in at just twenty-one minutes, it's probably for the best: like a sickly sweet audio candy, DAT Politics are probably best consumed in moderation.
