Boomkat Product Review:
Midland follows the likes of Pangaea and Pearson Sound to coin the Graded label for his own productions. As A&R and boss of himself, he's picked out two rugged flexes for the label's debut. Up front, 'Archive' shakes with crispy, sparring polyrhythms and UK garage-style bass spiced with that classic "love and happiness" sample, effectively sounding more like broken beat than straight up house. B-side, his 'Realtime' riddim rolls out like some smoother Nubian Mindz groove, adding layers of etheric, outernational vocal and atmospheric texture to a subtly off-centre 4/4 and reversed percussions. I'm no Midland expert, but i'd say these are the rudest joints we've heard from the man. Tipped!
