Boomkat Product Review:
Low-slung slow-house and tripped-out boogie derivations from Milyoo, making his full-length debut on Opit Records. It's strong stuff, for the most part adopting a stoned 4/4 strut in the tradition of Newworldaquarium, Kassem Mosse and Mark E, but with a dose of B-boy attitude borrowed from Madlib. The beats are boss, but it's the surrounding musicality that really impresses: 'Tough Enough''s smoky horns and sub-low synths, the moody strings of 'Field Work', the breathy vocal layers of 'Swoon'. Milyoo has his aesthetic totally locked down, but he's not afraid to shift gear, appealing to the steppers on 'Pulley' and 'Down Like You'. Subtle but self-assured, this is a richly psychedelic and very enjoyable album, highly recommended.
