Aqua Team
Classic DJ Stingray electro torpedoes from 2008 find their target again on his personal label, Micron Audio.
Just shy of 20 years since we first had our mind and body rewired by Stingray’s DJ set at Autechre’s legendary ATP, the Drexciyan ambassador and peerless electro specialist has, over the decades, risen to become one of its most in demand party-rockers.
His first album as DJ Stingray ‘Aqua Team’ (2008), followed a couple of classic LPs in this mode as Urban Tribe for Rephlex in 2006-07, and remains an early exemplar of his singular style, especially in the pacy sci-fi electro-techno pulse of ‘Potential’ and ‘Binary Coven’, or the echoes of those Urban Tribe albums in the taut electro structures of ‘Mindless’ and ‘LR001’ making crafty use of film dialogue and cybergoth-punk synth pads harking back to Robocop’s setting in a crime-ridden near-future Detroit.
