Boomkat Product Review:
This Chicago band make their full-length debut via that most reliable of American indies, Carpark. On Apparitions, this group distill a more outgoing, extroverted take on the sort of effects-jockeying and hazy pop exploits that have come to such prominence in the wake of Merriweather Post Pavilion and Person Pitch. What makes Light Pollution an interesting prospect is that they manage to repackage some of the more sonically experimental threads of indie-rock into a more flamboyant and commercial sound. You'll hear that in the arena-filling modern psych of 'Bad Vibes' and the swirling, synth arpeggiating of 'Good Feelings', but the band are at their best on tracks like 'Fever Dream', 'Deyci, Right On' and 'Witchcraft', finding something summery and electronically skewed within the idiom of shoegaze, and bearing the influence of contemporary pace-setters like Animal Collective and Deerhunter without slavishly regurgitating those bands' quirks.
