Boomkat Product Review:
Sounds like Alice and John Coltrane jamming with John Cage!
"You think you really know Gary Wilson? Feeding Tube reset our perceptions yet again with reissue of his blinding, free-spirited jazz and concrète side, Another Galaxy, featuring the arch freak flanked by Garry Iacovelli and Tyrone Parks III in the The Gary Wilson Trio.
In 1974, a good few years just prior to release of his renewed debut, You Think You Really Know Me (1977), Wilson and his pals issued the sublime, intricate and outlandish Another Galaxy in a private pressing of 500 copies which have hardly, if ever, seen the light of day since.
This miraculous reissue reveals a hitherto little known aspect of Wilson as jazz trio leader, manning piano and bass whilst Iacovelli hammers drums and Parks III blows tenor sax, with a little assistance on guitar from Chris Putrino in the title cut’s spiritual jazz flight.
If you’re aware of his later works, the surprise may be softened slightly, but only slightly, as the trio adventure a sound quite their own in the eastern-looking psychedelic jazz-funk of Another Galaxy, before cracking right between styles with the discordant piano shocks, tape manipulations and irregular percussions of Study For Three, to trip into divine spiritual jazz with Softly The Water Flows, and finally let it all out with the spiky, honking free jazz bent of Hate and Depression."
